Wix Ecommerce plays in a different league as it’s made for smaller stores. So if you primarily want to have a great looking website with a blog and an added shopping cart, Wix is for you. As it’s geared towards beginners, adding content and managing your store is a lot easier than with Shopify. I am thinking about listing older sportcards online and fazing out of ebay. I have been comparing a product like Shopify with CS Cart which would be a one time fee. 1GB storage is not much when you consider front/back scan of card is about 1MB…even the 5MB plan is not much. Is the type of business I am looking at better off with something like CS Cart?? My site does not need to be pretty….just quickly searchable with good scans.

Hi Jeremy, Great review about Shopify. I am starting an ecomm site to sell costume jewelry. I currently have a wholesale business selling to most US department stores. While this is a high volume business at the wholesale level, I’m not really sure what to expect volume wise with an ecomm site selling directly to the consumer. I can envision (and hope) that this business could be fairly significant. I am not experienced with building ecomm sites at all, but am not afraid of technology. In your opinion, is Shopify the best platform to start this ecomm business with, or am I better off just hiring someone to build my website from scratch? I would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

I have not used any other e-commerce platforms before, but my first experience of the Shopify platform was simply the best, and I would definitely recommend Shopify to first-time store owners. You could easily and effortlessly expand your Shopify store to suit your business, whether it's to tailor and customise a Shopify theme or to extending the features of the Shopify platform. The Shopify support staff are really helpful and knowledgeable of the platform, so if ever you are stuck or need clarification on anything, they are always available to assist you, so you needn't be afraid to explore the platform at all. My advice to first-time e-commerce and Shopify users is to take a little time to familiarize yourself with the platform, ask a lot of questions, and browse the Shopify blogs and forums, to see how others are using the platform. In my opinion, Shopify is one of the best and easiest e-commerce platforms to use, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!
Beginners, intermediates and advanced users (the ones looking to speed up the development process by not spending much time on coding or more complicated processes). I also like it for generalist bloggers or content creators who would like to sell digital goods and should start the Lite plan. The Shopify Lite plan is ripe for converting a regular business site into an ecommerce one. It's also nice to see a homepage builder (Shopify Sections) that has draggable elements.
Shopify is ok, but the lack of basic features they have deliberately not provided, forcing shop owners to purchase apps, is a bit underhanded and costly. For example, want to give a customer a volume discount… that’s $19.99 p/month…want to integrate your store with your courier… that’s a $279 p/m upgrade.. I would not recommend it to someone starting out, as the monthly costs to get a reasonable eComm store just isn’t worth it.
Welcome to the grind! This is where the real work begins. Having launched your online store, you should immediately move on to the promotion phase. Marketing your store and optimizing conversions will be your daily bread and butter from now on. You should also experiment with regularly expanding or refreshing your inventory. It is a particularly easy thing to do for dropshippers, as they can import new dropshipping products in minutes, but it should remain a priority even if you’re manufacturing or making the products yourself. Staying ahead of the curve will take some testing.
