I’m about to launch my online clothing and shoe boutique with about 60-75 products. I was looking through the reviews or shopfiy and bigcommerce and I’m not sure which to choose from. I want as much tools as I can get, I want it to be easy to use and I want to be able to use my cell phone to run my business so and app for the site would be perfect. What has better features, tools, and the easiest to use? And with all the information i have provided which do you think would be more beneficial for me?

Thanks for the review Jeremy. Very helpful to a novice like me. I also enjoyed reading your responses to all questions posted. I also intend to open an online store and now on trial period with squarelet.com (shoppy). Can I know what is the difference between Shopify and Squarelet (Shoppy)? Im based in Malaysia and selling Malaysian products but I have plans to bring my business to other markets outside Malaysia. Thanks in advance for your reply.

The next step in opening your virtual store is to figure out how you’d like it to look. You can do this by clicking the “Customize Theme” button on your dashboard screen. Click on the “Explore Free Themes” button to check out the options available as part of your Shopify package. Be aware that some of the themes shown actually have two or more overall skin options that you’ll see after you open the popup window describing the theme. If you don’t see anything you like here, you can click on “Visit Theme Store” and purchase a theme.

International e-commerce has become more pervasive and sophisticated in recent years. In 2017, 1.66 billion people worldwide purchased goods online. During the same year, global e-retail sales amounted to $2.3 trillion, and that figure could grow to $4.48 trillion by 2021. E-commerce providers must continue to innovate to ensure they take full advantage of opportunities outside their home market. [More...]

Logistics in e-commerce mainly concerns fulfillment. Online markets and retailers have to find the best possible way to fill orders and deliver products. Small companies usually control their own logistic operation because they do not have the ability to hire an outside company. Most large companies hire a fulfillment service that takes care of a company's logistic needs.[61]
Once a blog post is created, add it to your homepage if you’d like by clicking “Online Store,” then the blue “Customize” button on the right. Click on the “Add section” link on the left and choose “Blog post.” You can also adjust the flow of your home page here by clicking on the six dots to the right of the choices in the left-hand column and dragging the item to the position in which you’d like it to appear.

Among emerging economies, China's e-commerce presence continues to expand every year. With 668 million Internet users, China's online shopping sales reached $253 billion in the first half of 2015, accounting for 10% of total Chinese consumer retail sales in that period.[43] The Chinese retailers have been able to help consumers feel more comfortable shopping online.[44] e-commerce transactions between China and other countries increased 32% to 2.3 trillion yuan ($375.8 billion) in 2012 and accounted for 9.6% of China's total international trade.[45] In 2013, Alibaba had an e-commerce market share of 80% in China.[46] In 2014, there were 600 million Internet users in China (twice as many as in the US), making it the world's biggest online market.[47] China is also the largest e-commerce market in the world by value of sales, with an estimated US$899 billion in 2016.[48]

When it comes to business, you're only as good as your reputation. Indeed, your reputation is your brand. It is the substance your logo represents; it is the glue in customer brand loyalty. In a word, reputation is everything. Yet it's not entirely under your control. That doesn't mean you are helpless as a victim of false accusations, ratings, or wrongful attacks on your company's character, however. [More...]

E-commerce brings convenience for customers as they do not have to leave home and only need to browse website online, especially for buying the products which are not sold in nearby shops. It could help customers buy wider range of products and save customers’ time. Consumers also gain power through online shopping. They are able to research products and compare prices among retailers. Also, online shopping often provides sales promotion or discounts code, thus it is more price effective for customers. Moreover, e-commerce provides products’ detailed information; even the in-store staff cannot offer such detailed explanation. Customers can also review and track the order history online.
Launching a store used to be a major undertaking involving leasing space, buying inventory that might or might not sell, building shelves, and working long hours behind a cash register. Now, thanks to that little innovation known as the World Wide Web, setting up shop can be done with little more than a few mouse clicks and a few hours of your time. Here we’ll look at one of the most popular ways of launching an online store.
Shopify can enable your users to buy your products directly through Facebook thanks to the two platforms’ integration. You can also enable and manage user accounts on your Shopify store. However, I’m not so sure you can combine the two, unless their is a specific app that can be approved through Facebook and allow this data and information to be collected and stored, almost like a remote Shopify account. There is a Shopify forum discussion on this topic here, and an app to possibly consider is ‘One Click Social Login‘.
Your product idea will dictate which aspects of the market you need to research, but some of the most important areas to look into will be your competition, pricing strategy, and your unique value proposition. At this point, it is also a good idea to draft a business plan that will help you visualize your growth strategy and identify any potential threats or obstacles.

Fiverr – This is a “freelance services marketplace” that connects people (mostly entrepreneurs) with service providers who offer anything from graphic design and online marketing to translation and video development. As its name indicates, gig pricing on Fiverr starts at $5 USD, though depending on what you’re selling, that can go up to hundreds, even thousands of dollars.
I opened my stores on shopify twice and got the same result. If you check online you can see a lot of people are having the same issue and shopify will not help you! I signed up for their 14 day trial, then selected a plan, entered my credit card and shopify shut down my store immediately! I had put in hours of work and in an instant everything is gone!
ECom accounts will remain enabled for all students that graduate with a degree and all employees that retire from Western Illinois University. Former students that did not receive a degree from WIU will have their ECom accounts deactivated after three consecutive semesters of non-attendance. Employees that leave the University will have their ECom accounts immediately deactivated upon resignation or termination. ECom accounts for alums and retirees will be deactivated if found to be inactive for one year. When ECom accounts are deactivated, all files saved on your University network drives, personal web pages, and Google Apps accounts will be deleted. An e-mail notification will be sent prior to ECom deactivation.
To start an online business it is best to find a niche product that consumers have difficulty finding in malls or department stores. Also take shipping into consideration. Pets.com found out the hard way: dog food is expensive to ship FedEx! Then you need an ecommerce enabled website. This can either be a new site developed from scratch, or an existing site to which you can add ecommerce shopping cart capabilities.
Thanks for writing the review. When signing on for the “lite” $9/month version, can you purchase a feature separately? I am interested in the abandoned checkout recovery option, but am not prepared to pay the $79 or $179 options. I love the idea as I often get distracted when online and love when I get an email reminding me to finish my purchase. Thank you, Amanda
The platform also provides an interface called Shopify Partners, where developers can play around with new websites without having to open up free trials every time. It's like a sandbox interface for those who have several clients and need to present website builds before landing jobs. You can install new themes, customize full websites and seamlessly transition from a Shopify Partners website to a launched site. Not only that, but you gain a commission for every client you bring on board with Shopify.
If you have any familiarity with WordPress, the dashboard actually looks pretty similar to that interface, with the tabs on the left side for you to access quickly. You can also use the dashboard for generating discount codes, or for examining the latest reports. (In fact, the reports on Shopify are my favorite out of all the ecommerce platforms. They're organized, clean and simple, with options like sales by billing address, sales by traffic referrer and gross sales by product title).
Great info everytime! I’d really like to see a Shopify (updated) and a Magento Community Version (MC) (updated) competitive comparison review. But with your expert opinion, which is the better option? I am on MC, using a server, but do not have on hand, a team of tech experts to help whenever problems arise. As the business grow, I appreciate MC’s functionality but heard Shopify matches the functionality in terms by adding the Shopify apps, and the costs of these apps would be even out by the server requirement cost for MC? I like the fact that Shopify now has a ONE payment/dashboard gateway which makes it easy for customers and admin alike, 24/7 support (would they revert to non 24/7 as their marketshare grows?), but end of day is we do not own the platform like we do MC (ownership is a pretty big thing haha), and I read that’s because they are able to execute version upgrades seamlessly with this model of us not owning the software platform? Torn between the two but want ultimate ecommerce success at the end and the correct ecommerce platform that will help bring us there. Your thoughts please.

We have switched from Big commerce to Shopify Plus earlier this year and we loved the platform. It is very easy to use and much more app integration. With Shopify Plus you can have multiple countries website under one account. We have a dedicated success manager that we can throw any Shopify related question to and their support team is always on line and fix problem super fast. Overall, very good experience and our store already see good growth rate after switching the platform
On April 14, 2015, Shopify filed for an initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange and Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbols "SHOP" and "SH" respectively.[27][28] Shopify went public on May 21, 2015, and in its debut on the New York Stock Exchange, started trading at $28, more than 60% higher than its USD$17 offering price, with its IPO raising more than $131 million.[29][30]

Every time you hit the "download" button, a new SINGLE USE license for that particular song, on that particular project, is generated. So, if you’re going to use a song multiple times for different projects, just hit the download button again, for however many times you use it. This does two things: (1) It keeps you legal with licensing on all of your projects, and (2) it allows us to pay our amazing artists properly.

Phil Smy, former Chief Technology Officer for Toygaroo, told Shark Tank Blog, that Toygaroo might have had trouble scaling the business. “The business was growing,” he said. “To be honest, that was the problem. Explosive growth is a difficult thing to handle for small businesses. I thought – and still think – it is a great idea. The business model needs some changing from what we were doing. I would have grown more organically (i.e., slower) and also found investors who were willing to go the distance.”
With the holidays fast approaching, are you looking to buy presents online? The holiday season has become synonymous with online shopping. This isn't really surprising as physical stores usually attract crowds of deal hunters. This often conjures up images of throngs of people waiting in line outside the store, some even camping out. This activity is tolerable for some and even fun for others. [More...]

The Mozilla Foundation is expanding a campaign begun last year to help consumers buy safe, secure connected toys and mobile gadgets this holiday season. Mozilla's 2018 edition Privacy Not Included buyers' guide offers an assessment of the privacy and security qualities of 70 products, ranging from connected teddy bears and smart speakers to game consoles and smart home gadgets. I chose Shopify because it was very easy to get started on this platform and launch a polished, fully functioning eCommerce store within a week. The vibrant community of developers and designers who create useful apps and beautiful themes are always innovating, which lets me continually refine the website and add the latest eCommerce features. With Shopify’s intuitive UI and awesome analytics, this is a very excellent solution for small businesses to showcase and sell products online.
Thanks for your article. I bought a Shopify Store and not all the apps are free. It is somewhat user-friendly with the templates and adding products. But you also have to fine tune your site for optimizing images, and fix your page speed. It takes a bit of tweaking at times and sometimes you can things yourself, but other times you may have to get some help with a cost. But it is still worth it because you learn so much from the experience and have the opportunity to put wonderful products to your store. My web store thetrailsendboutique.net is only one example of many.
That was a great review. There are definitely some beautifully made themes in Shopify’s theme store with styles for everyone. We ended up purchasing the Retina Theme which gave us the building blocks and tools to create a great first website. With a bit of additional help from online html and css editing tutorials like http://www.codecademy.com/ we were able to get our shop to the level we wanted.
Even with all the advantages of Shopify mentioned above, there are some downsides with the platform. The most prominent downside is the additional transaction fee you'll be liable to pay if you don't use Shopify Payment. Moreover, plenty of useful and practical extensions require additional investment. Perhaps most challenging is "Liquid," Shopify's own coding language, which requires ecommerce store owners to pay an incremental price for customization.
If you are looking to sell your products in an actual retail setting, then you can opt for the Shopify POS. This includes everything you need to sell your products offline, both on the software and hardware side. The software includes an iPad app, which makes selling your products in a retail setting much easier. With the app, you can use the credit card reader to swipe the customer's credit card right there. You can even purchase additional hardware from the company such as a cash register, a receipt printer and even a barcode scanner.
B2C transactions are what often come to mind when people think of e-commerce. One of the most popular examples of of B2C transactions is buying and selling goods on the internet. Many businesses have virtual storefronts that are the online equivalents of their retail outlets. Some businesses have no physical storefronts at all—only websites. Buyers browse and purchase products with mouse clicks. Though Amazon.com is not the pioneer of online shopping, it is arguably the most famous online shopping destination.
Finding free, legal music for your online videos can be difficult. As an online video creator you want the perfect soundtrack for your video masterpieces, but you also want to make sure that you don’t break any copyright laws. After all, there’s nothing more frustrating then working hard on a video only to have YouTube take it down because of a music copyright violation. Luckily there are some great sources online where you can find the perfect music for your video project. We’ve put together a list of ten great sites for finding royalty free music for your online videos.
I think the thing about Shopify is that they allow you to integrate your offline and online systems, instead of having them separated and trying to reconcile your business data. Think of it as backend integration and support. If you change your backend data, such as pricing, inventory levels, etc, everything is sync’d up allow you more time to grow your business. (if you haven’t see our thoughts on Shopify POS yet, see this)

Websites such as Squarespace and WordPress offer mobile-friendly, ready-to-go e-commerce templates that help you get a store up and running quickly. As a shop owner, you will need a way to collect credit card payments from consumers online. PayPal, Square and Google Wallet are all popular ways of accepting and managing online payments. You can also sell your merchandise through online giants like Amazon.

The changing market represents a vast opportunity for businesses to improve their relevance and expand their market in the online world. Researchers predict e-commerce will be 17 percent of U.S. retail sales by 2022, according to Digital Commerce 360. The U.S. will spend about $460 billion online in 2017. These figures will continue to climb as mobile and internet use expand both in the U.S. and in developing markets around the world.
